Kemptville, Canada (August 13, 2024) – Cannabis Orchards Inc., a leading biotechnology company specializing in the research and commercialization of minor cannabinoids, is proud to announce that Vendetta has been officially added to the Health Canada List of Approved Cultivars (LOAC) as of August 12, 2024. Vendetta is the first hemp variety with a near 1:1 ratio of CBD to CBDV, representing a significant breakthrough in availability in this minor cannabinoid.
Vendetta’s addition to the LOAC marks a pivotal moment in the Canadian hemp industry. Developed through a strategic partnership with Trilogene Seeds, this variety combines the best traits of CBD and CBDV, offering new possibilities for growers, researchers, and consumers alike. CBDV (cannabidivarin) is a minor cannabinoid that has recently gained attention for its potential therapeutic benefits.
Dr. Jamie Ghossein, CEO of Cannabis Orchards, shared, “We are thrilled to introduce Vendetta to the Canadian market. This approval by Health Canada not only expands our offering of minor cannabinoids but also opens new doors for research and therapeutic development using CBDV. Vendetta’s unique profile provides a versatile option for both medicinal and industrial applications, opening up a new market for this minor cannabinoid in Canada and abroad”.
Vendetta’s approval by Health Canada comes after rigorous testing to ensure it meets all regulatory standards, including maintaining THC levels below the 0.3% threshold defining industrial hemp. The variety has shown exceptional performance in field trials, with robust yields and a stable cannabinoid profile, making it an ideal choice for large-scale cultivation.
“Cannabis Orchards is committed to advancing the science of hemp and cannabinoids,” Dr. Ghossein continued. “With Vendetta, we are excited to explore its potential in various therapeutic contexts, and we look forward to working with our partners and the wider scientific community to unlock its full potential.”
Vendetta will be available to licensed hemp growers in Canada as feminized seed starting in Spring 2025, and biomass will be made available to commercial processors in Fall 2025 exclusively through Cannabis Orchards. Cannabis Orchards holds a GACP certification for biomass cultivation and will be including Vendetta in its large-scale GACP biomass cultivation program. Interested processors are invited to reach out to the sales department to discuss procurement options given limited release in the upcoming outdoor season.
