June 4, 2024 - Cannabis Orchards is pleased to announce that its CEO, Dr. Jamie Ghossein, presented at the McGill Cannabis Scientific Symposium: From Plants to People. Dr. Ghossein’s oral presentation, titled “Extraction and Isolation of Minor Cannabinoids from Industrial Hemp,” showcased groundbreaking advancements in the field of cannabinoid research.
Dr. Ghossein stated, “Our collaboration with the University of Ottawa allowed the integration of cutting-edge plant breeding for minor cannabinoids and cannabinoid isolation methods performed in the academic setting. This has enabled the production, extraction, and isolation of minor cannabinoids, both in acid and decarboxylated forms from industrial hemp, proving their potential in pre-clinical models of disease. This proof of concept is crucial for moving minor cannabinoids from bench-top and in vitro work to pre-clinical studies in vivo, paving the way for future clinical trials and therapeutic development.”
Through innovative steps, this research has demonstrated that minor cannabinoids, can be feasibly produced in plants, extracted, isolated, and used in in vivo experiments. This included CBG, CBGA, CBC and CBCA. This advancement is instrumental in showcasing the therapeutic potential of minor cannabinoids, supporting their transition from research to clinical applications.
Dr. Ghossein emphasized, “This work opens new avenues for therapeutic development, particularly in targeting diseases where cannabinoids have demonstrated potential in in vitro models. Transition to clinical study have long been limited by the paucity of extracted and isolated minor cannabinoid to be used in animal experiments or in the clinical setting. By isolating and successfully demonstrating the use of these minor cannabinoids in vivo, we are pioneering new frontiers in medical research and offering hope for novel treatment options.”
The development of minor cannabinoid hemp and production of cannabinoid biomass was conducted at Cannabis Orchards’ facilities. Extraction, isolation and in vivo experiments were performed in academic facilities.
